- …urges Anambra electorate to reject “failed leadership”
Ike Chinedu Klinsmann, a prominent political figure and advocate for public accountability from Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, has issued a critical evaluation of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
He describes the governor’s three-year tenure as marked by unfulfilled promises and misplaced priorities.
This assessment comes in response to the recent appeal by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, urging opposition parties to adopt Governor Soludo as a consensus candidate for the upcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election.
Klinsmann dismisses this plea as a desperate admission of failure from a party aware of its candidate’s lack of achievements.
Klinsmann highlights significant underperformance in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
He points out that despite Governor Soludo’s initial pledge to transform Anambra into the “Dubai of Africa,” the state continues to grapple with deteriorating roads, understaffed hospitals, and inadequately resourced schools.
“Notably, urban renewal projects in Onitsha and Awka have experienced delays and contractor abandonment, undermining public confidence,” Klinsmann stated.
While acknowledging the initiation of urban road construction projects in Awka and Ekwulobia, Klinsmann emphasizes the neglect of rural connectivity and the prevalence of unfinished projects.
“For instance, the Neni-Aguata road, commenced in 2022, remains incomplete, isolating agrarian communities and hindering economic activities. Of the 220 roads flagged off in 2022, less than 30% have been completed, with projects like the Awka Expressway renovation stalled, causing daily gridlock and frustration among commuters,” he alleged.
“Meanwhile, the government spends more on commissioning ceremonies than on actual construction. There’s a wide disconnect between Soludo’s policy promises and grassroots realities,” he stated.
Governor Soludo’s economic reforms, anticipated to bring innovative changes, have, according to Klinsmann, disproportionately favoured urban elites while neglecting rural populations.
“The ‘One Youth, Two Skills’ entrepreneurship program, aimed at addressing unemployment, has faced criticism for limited reach and bureaucratic challenges. A 2023 survey by the Anambra Business Council revealed that only 15% of applicants benefited from training or seed funding, leading to increased youth dissatisfaction,” Klinsmann stated.
Furthermore, Pharm. Klinsmann stated that aggressive tax reforms, including increased levies for small businesses and transport operators, have sparked widespread protests.
“Traders in Onitsha Main Market and Ekwulobia Motor Park have labeled these policies as oppressive, arguing that they stifle the growth of the informal sector”, he added.
Although the government cites increased internally generated revenue as a success, Klinsmann notes that rising inflation and poverty levels negate these gains. The lack of tangible support for farmers, he noted, despite Anambra’s agrarian potential, has further alienated rural voters.
Klinsmann urges Anambra voters to reject what he terms “the politics of empty slogans” and to demand accountability in the forthcoming elections.
He emphasizes that the 2025 election is pivotal for restoring the dignity of Ndi Anambra and calls for a government that prioritizes the welfare of its people over propaganda.
Klinsmann also encourages opposition parties to unite behind a credible candidate capable of addressing the state’s challenges, dismissing APGA’s plea for support as a strategic distraction.
Pharm. Ike Chinedu Klinsmann has consistently advocated for transparent and effective governance in Anambra State.
In December 2024, he criticized the state government’s allocation of ₦1 billion for solar-powered streetlights amidst escalating security challenges, questioning the prioritization of such projects over essential security initiatives.
Klinsmann highlighted the lack of provision of vital security tools, such as patrol vehicles and communication gadgets, which are crucial for law enforcement agencies to restore public confidence.
Additionally, Klinsmann has raised concerns about Governor Soludo’s approach to local government autonomy, accusing the administration of undermining the independence of local governments and hindering grassroots development.
He has called upon President Bola Tinubu to address these issues to ensure that local governments function optimally and deliver necessary services to the populace.
As the 2025 Anambra State governorship election approaches, Klinsmann’s critique serves as a clarion call for voters to critically assess the performance of the current administration and to make informed decisions that will shape the future of the state.
