Lagos State Governor, Babajide  Sanwo-Olu, has commended the BUA Group’s decision to establish a new detergent production facility in Lagos.

The governor stated this during a visit to Alaro City, Epe, Lagos plant of Starium detergents.

He said BUA Group’s decision to establish a new detergent production facility in Lagos underscores the firm’s commitment towards deepening investment in the detergent consumer market.

He noted that the firm’s proposed expansion would significantly enhance the company’s capacity to meet local demand.

The governor commended Starium for siting the facility in the state to create employment for the youth, adding that he was delighted at local manufacturers who are filling the gaps left by some multinationals that exited the country’s economy in the recent past.

Receiving the Governor at the facility, Chief Executive of Starium Holdings, Alhaji Kabiru Rabiu, owners of Starium Detergents and makers of Rafa Detergents, said the factory was one of the newest additions to the BUA Group conglomerate.

Rabiu, who is also a Group Executive Director of BUA Group, led the governor on a tour of the facility, which is the second largest detergent plant in Nigeria.

During the tour, Rabiu explained that Starium commenced production in 2024 and the company has completed plans to kick-off the construction of the second production line within the facility.

“The recent exit of some multinationals in the detergent industry created a vacuum in the availability of quality detergents, which the local manufacturers have begun to step in to fill,” he said.

He stated that Starium would soon commence export of some of its products to the West African markets.

He commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for businesses and manufacturers in the state,  stressing that the impetus was bolstered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision and foresight in establishing the Lekki economic city.

Sanwo-Olu, was accompanied on the visit by his Commissioners for Commerce, Cooperatives and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebe; Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab; Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Oluyinka Olumide.

Also at the event with the Governor was the Chairman of Alaro City, Ayodeji Gbeleyi and the Managing Director of Alaro city, Yomi Adeola.
