Following President Bola Tinubu’s meeting with lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, it has been decided that reinstated Speaker Mudashiru Obasa retains his position.

Obasa was impeached on January 13, 2025, and was subsequently replaced by Mojisola Merande. The latter resigned on March 3, and Obasa was reinstated.

Speaking on Tinubu’s meeting with the lawmakers, APC spokesman Hon. Seye Oladejo disclosed that all speculations about the speakership were put to bed.

“The matter has been put to an end. The President addressed all issues, and the lawmakers are happy with the resolution,” Oladejo said.

“The President is our leader, and everyone defers to him. He ensured a fair hearing for all parties, and normalcy will return to the assembly,” he added.

Additionally, a source with knowledge of the issue shared, “Obasa is not going anywhere. He will remain as Speaker, as decided by the President.

“The meeting was aimed at permanently resolving the crisis.”
