Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to assist the region in tackling the problems of insecurity and poverty bedevilling the region.

Yusuf made the appeal when he received the Chairman of the Commission, Lawal Ismail and his delegation, yesterday.

He regretted that the North West has so many challenges, especially the issue of insecurity where bandits and kidnappers go around kidnapping innocent citizens, demanding ransom from them and even killing some.

He also lamented that some of their victims were subjected to inhuman and disheartening treatments, including rape and other traumatic experiences.

The governor also commented on the rage of poverty, hunger and malnutrition in the region, adding that many people in the region could no longer afford three square meals any more

The governor, therefore, insisted that the establishment of the Commission could not have come at a better time, while thanking President Bola Tinubu for his foresight.

Earlier, Ismail expressed assurance that the Commission would not derail from its mandate as it would work closely with the state government.
