Police operatives in Nasarawa State have apprehended a suspected fake soldier, Godswill Achili, for alleged armed robbery. The arrest was made during a surveillance operation by officers attached to the Angwan Lambu Division in Keffi.

The suspect was caught wearing military camouflage and, upon interrogation, confessed to impersonating a soldier and engaging in criminal activities.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, in a press release on Monday, Achili belongs to a notorious criminal syndicate that operates in both the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.

“The gang specialises in using military uniforms and a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon to deceive unsuspecting victims, particularly students and youths travelling between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT,” Nansel stated. “They lure people into their vehicle under false pretences before robbing them of valuables such as money and mobile phones.”

Police investigations indicate that at least two other members of the syndicate are still at large. Efforts are ongoing to track them down and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Nasarawa State. The public should support us by providing useful information that can help in curbing crime,” CP Mohammed said.
