The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) has elected new executive members.
At the election held in Lagos recently, Mr. Adeniran Makinde emerged the president of the association, while Oluwaseun Odukoya became the deputy president.
Others elected to run the affairs of the association included Dr. Abiodun Olayiwola (Secretary General), Omolola Adamu (Assistant Secretary/Finance), Victor Nwokocha (Director, Publicity), Dr. Lucy Iseyen (Director, Finance), Agba-Anyim Godwin (Director of Business), Charles Nwaokolo (Director, Production & Screening), and Alex Akpuh (Chief Whip).
Elated with the victory, Makinde described his emergence as an opportunity to contribute his quota to the development of NANTAP. “This election is a testament to our collective dedication to the advancement of theatre and the creative industry in Nigeria. The arts sector in Nigeria faces many hurdles – limited funding, policy neglect, dwindling opportunities, and the urgent need for stronger institutional support. These challenges are real, but they are not insurmountable.
“We must be the change, and ensure that our contributions to society are recognised and respected. We will engage policymakers, forge strategic partnerships, and create sustainable opportunities for practitioners across all levels. As we embark on this journey, I pledge to lead with integrity, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to the ideals of our profession,” he declared.
