National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has discouraged Nigerians against reckless and unprotected intimate actions that could expose them to sexually transmitted diseases, particularly the HIV.

The warning was, perhaps, against the backdrop of the forthcoming valentine day designed to celebrate love and romance.

NACA Director General, Dr. Temitope Ilori, in a statement, on Tuesday, said that HIV remains a serious public health concern, though preventable through careful sexual activities.

She, however, stated that engaging in risky behaviors such as unprotected sex, multiple partners, or substance use that impairs judgment can increase the risk of HIV transmission.

“As Valentine’s Day approaches, there’s the need to reminds everyone that love and intimacy should always go hand in hand with safety and responsibility.

“This Valentine’s season, let’s celebrate love by making informed choices and taking steps to protect ourselves and our partners from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

“Knowing your status is key to protecting yourself and others. Regular HIV testing should also be a part of your healthcare routine. We want everyone to enjoy Valentine’s Day while making choices that protect their health. HIV is preventable, and we have the tools to stop its spread. Love responsibly, get tested, and make informed decisions,” she advised.
