Kwara State Police Command has arrested over 90 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and rapists, rescued 25 victims and recovered 40 arms.
Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, said: “We will smoke criminals out of the state. My officers did well in 2024. I encouraged them to apply professionalism in carrying out their duties and try to work in the ambit of law and follow the police rules and regulations of the Police Act.
“The command has put in place adequate security arrangement, in liaison with other security agencies to protect life and property. Members of the public should be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
“Police operatives arrested some suspected armed robbers in their different hideouts in IIorin and Offa. They rescued 13 victims kidnapped in Oke-Ero Local Government on their way from wedding in Kogi State. The kidnappers disguised in military uniforms and engaged police operatives in a gun battle.
“The Police Tactical Team rescued 20 victims in the kidnappers’ hideout in Obbo-Aiyegunle and Obbo-Ile. We raided some of the kidnappers’ dens in Omu-Aran, IIofa, Osu, Eruku and Egbe, while ome suspected kidnappers were arrested in Offa.
“The Police Intelligence Unit in the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), arrested 20 suspected members of Eiye and Black Axe cults involved in armed robbery in Italamu, IIorin.”
