The Oyo State Government has announced that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025.
This exercise will take place at Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities (LGUBEAs) in all local government areas across the state.
Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, revealed this on Friday during a meeting with Education Secretaries in Ibadan. He urged the new teachers to adopt innovative methods and modern techniques in teaching while emphasizing the Board’s zero tolerance for examination malpractices. The appointments will officially take effect from January 1, 2025.
Dr. Adeniran highlighted the need for a redistribution of teachers to address staffing imbalances across local governments, ensuring equity and fairness. He called on the new teachers to demonstrate integrity, diligence, and patriotism in their duties, positioning themselves as transformative educators for the future.
The recruitment, part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s initiative to improve basic education, especially in rural areas, involves 7,000 successful candidates. The first batch of 5,600 will receive their letters starting Monday. Teachers with disabilities and those applying for caregiver roles are to collect their letters from the Board’s headquarters in Agodi.
Also, Dr. Adeniran announced that the government has paid ₦2.5 billion as a counterpart fund for 2022 and 2023 UBEC/SUBEB projects, ensuring continued infrastructural development in schools. He commended Governor Makinde for addressing staffing gaps in education, positioning Oyo State as a leader among its peers.
The distribution centers are located in LGUBEA offices across the state, including major locations such as Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Saki, and Iseyin. The complete list of these offices is provided to ensure accessibility for all recipients. Dr. Adeniran congratulated the new teachers and reminded them of their professional responsibilities and ethical obligations.
