Iyom Lady Christy Ray-Okoye (Iyom Okwesilieze) has been appointed as Ambassador Extraordinaire to Eze Dunu Igwe Ifitedunu.
At her investiture during the Ofala Festival on December 29, 2024, in Ifitedunu, the philanthropist and businesswoman expressed her surprise and gratitude, saying she was not expecting the honour the Igwe bestowed on her.
“It was a surprise to me and even my husband was equally astonished when I got the appointment letter. Today, being the Ofala Festival is a day set aside for the Igwe to showcase his cabinet, honouring people that have done well in and out of the community. So, it is a merry-making festival,” she noted.
How prepared is Lady Ray-Okoye to take up her new role as Ambassador Extraordinaire? Her response: “To whom much is given, much is expected. It’s a mandate that I need to work harder. Now, I liaise with the Igwe, the cabinet, the women that need empowerment, and the girl child, to create more awareness.
If they have problems, I’ll discuss with the Igwe and then know how to solve the problems.
“So, I’m happy, I’m retired and prepared. I’ve been doing such work. Add to this is the fact that my husband is the traditional Prime Minister of our place. He’s the Onowu, the second-in-command to the Igwe. So, that gives me an advantage to do this.”
