The Governor of Akwa Ibom, Pastor Umo Eno on Monday swore in six new high court judges in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
The newly inaugurated judges include Mfon Winifred Umohandi, Bassey James Ekanem, Bassey Iwakaowo Essien, Comfort Henry Morrison, Edet Ekpo Ntekim and Sharon Julius Eddie.
In his address, Eno congratulated the new judges who were recommended by the Nigerian Judiciary Council (NJC) for their successful inauguration.
He said, “This elevation is a testimony of your professional competence, sound judicial antecedents, and the rich body of work you have put in for the advancement of your career thus far.”
He appreciated the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and other members of the National Judicial Council (NJC) for their support and recommendations.
He also commended the State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaete Obot, for engendering a great spirit of collaboration and cooperation.
The governor stated that Akwa Ibom under his leadership would continue to remain uncomfortable for criminals and their enablers.
He noted that his mandate is to serve the people, ensure that the rule of law is respected, and create a society free from all criminal elements so that people could legitimately pursue their businesses in a peaceful, safe, and secure environment.
He expressed hope that having more judges in the judicial system would ensure the speedy trial of criminals and the punishment meted out according to the law of the land.
Eno assured that the executive arm will continue to partner with the judiciary to ensure that peace and security in the state are maintained.
“The judiciary, as often said, is the last hope of the common man, and I have no doubt that you will continue to dispense justice fairly, without fear or favour.
“We will continue to work in partnership with the judiciary for the service of our dear state,” he said.
The inauguration, which had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Ekaete Obot, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, was followed shortly by a presentation of official cars to the judges to aid them in the exercise of their duties.
