The Nigerian chapter of International Press Institute (IPI) has re-elected the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, Musikilu Mojeed and the CEO of the Media Trust Group, Ahmed I. Shekarau, as President and Secretary respectively.

They were sworn in on Thursday along with four other officials elected unopposed to direct the affairs of the Institute for the next three years.

A statement issued by a member of the global executive board of the IPI, Raheem Adedoyin, said Mojeed promised the commitment of his administration to enhance the Nigerian media operating environment.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in his opening address at the conference, noted the existence of press freedom in Nigeria.

Former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, a renowned journalist and long time member of the IPI, praised IPI members for their commitment to press freedom, journalists’ rights and independent journalism.
