Imo State government has urged indigenes of Aku community in Okigwe Local Government Area to return to their homes after a combined team of the police,army ,Department of State Services (DSS) and vigilance groups from the area invaded and destroyed a suspected camp of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).
Imo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Henry Okoye, in a statement,said the operation, which has been underway for several weeks, has successfully dismantled the base used by the group in launching violent attacks on innocent citizens and security personnel.
Also, on the course of the attack the team he said recorded a breakthrough that led to the arrest of key suspects and has significantly improved security in the State.
Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Security matters, Brigadier Joseph Ogbonna (rtrd) who was elated by the feat of the security team vowed that the State government will continue to support and provide logistics for the restoration of peace and elimination of insecurity in the once troubled area area.
Similarly, the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, alongside other Service Commanders, has urged the residents to continue to offer actionable intelligence to aid ongoing security operations embarked upon by the combined team of the security chiefs.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General U.A. Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Commander Naval Base, Oguta, the Director of DSS and the Commissioner for Homeland Security visited the place to evaluate the progress of the ongoing operation and boost the morale of the joint security forces.
The visit by the key security chiefs in the state Okoye said ,highlights the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and restore peace in the state.
“Their collective presence at the joint security operation in Aku, underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing security challenges in the State”.
