Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick has said the club would speak with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to consider dropping Lamine Yamal for the Spanish national team’s upcoming matches.

The 17-year-old was missing from Barcelona’s match-day squad that lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad in La Liga on Sunday night.

The club confirmed Yamal suffered “severe contusion” in the 5-2 victory over Serbian side Crvena Zvezda in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

His absence proved detrimental to Flick’s side, whose seven-match winning streak ended on Sunday night.

Speaking after the match, Flick said, “We missed Lamine today, which is normal, I don’t know if he will be back straight after the international break.

“I think the doctors will ask for Lamine not to play for the national team. We will speak to the RFEF. He would have if he could’ve played tonight, but there was no other option. I hope the right thing will be done.”

Yamal was instrumental to Spain’s Euro victory in July, registering a goal and four assists, and becoming youngest ever finalist in the competition.

La Furia Roja will meet Denmark on Friday before facing Switzerland three days later in their final Nations League group game.
