Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the results of last Wednesday’s local government election.

The party accused the ruling Peoples Democratic (Party) of compromising the process to the detriment of the opposition in order to benefit its candidates.

APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, told newsmen at a news briefing in Jos yesterday that despite the assurances of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) that it would conduct a free and fair election, the actions of the electoral body fell short of expectations.

Surrounded by some APC chairmanship candidates, Bature described the October 9 local government election as a sham and the worst in the history of the state.

While expressing grave concerns over the conduct of the conducted in all the 17 local areas of the State, APC described the 9th of October 2024 as ill-fated because it was the “day the people of Plateau State were denied opportunity to select through the ballot boxes, their own leaders and representatives in the administration of their respective local government Councils by the PLASIEC in concert with the PDP led government and other anti democratic forces.”

The party said that voters were starved of electoral materials, especially in APC strongholds, while in some cases the exercise was marred by late arrival of materials.
