Akwa Ibom state police command has smashed a kidnapping ring leader identified as Ubong Effiong Archibong known for killing, kidnapping and terrorizing residents Uruan and Oron coastal areas in Akwa Ibom state .
A statement signed by Akwa Ibom state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Timfon John and made available to Journalists in Uyo Thursday confirmed that the suspect was responsible for the killing of the Chief Executive Officer of Emem & Sons Nig Ltd killed three months ago by assailants who attempted to abduct him on his way to farm along Air Port road in Uyo .
John also mentioned that the suspect was the leader of the kidnapping squad that abducted a High Court Judge in Okobo local government area on his way back from court sitting in Oron while the Police Orderly was shot dead during the operation .
According to the statement, other criminal escapades of the suspect include piracy and terrorizing fishermen on high sea along the state waterways .
The statement reads in parts:
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Wednesday 28th August, 2024 has neutralized a dreaded Kidnap Kingpin/ Sea Pirate whose stock in trade was to kidnap, kill, maim and cause havoc in societies.
“The Kingpin Ubong Effiong Archibong (M) alias condiment, a gang leader of bling bling marine strike force terrorizing Uruan/Oron Water Ways were responsible for kidnapping of a High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the killing of her Police orderly Inspector ThankGod Edet, the gruesome murder of the CEO Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd and kidnapping of his sales rep.
“The suspect was also responsible for the kidnap of Pharmacist Joemel and the kidnap of Mr. Brown CEO Mingles Hotel.”
The police Spokesperson explained that the suspect died during gun battle with the police in his hideout at Uyanga community in Cross River state .
“The Suspect was neutralized during a gun battle with operatives of the Command in his hideout at Uyanga Community in Cross River State.
“One G3 riffle with four live ammunition were recovered from the suspect. The corpse of the suspect was recovered and deposited at the morgue. Investigations with full intent to arrest other members of the gang are ongoing.” She said .
