Benue State Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has commended the youth of the state for their steadfastness, determination, and resilience in overcoming obstacles to achieve success.

The governor made this statement in a broadcast to commemorate International Youth Day (IYD) 2024.

Describing the youth as the driving force of the state, Governor Alia expressed pride in their achievements in education, entrepreneurship, sports, and technology. He assured them of his administration’s commitment to harnessing their full potential by providing initiatives for their empowerment.

“I am proud of the strides some of you are making in various fields such as education, entrepreneurship, sports, and technology. Your innovation and creativity continue to inspire hope and confidence in the future of our great state and the nation in general.

“As your government, we are fully committed to ensuring that your potential is harnessed, and your dreams are realised. He highlighted some of these initiatives, including ICT training for 10,000 youths, collaboration with the United Nations on a volunteer scheme, the renovation of Aper Aku Stadium to showcase young talent, and the construction of a Fashion Hub to foster a new generation of fashion entrepreneurs.

Governor Alia promised continuous improvement in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, describing these as foundational pillars for the state’s long-term growth and prosperity. He added that discussions are ongoing with all government ministries, agencies, and departments to create avenues for youth engagement and empowerment.

While commending the youth for their maturity and wisdom during the recent nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, the governor regretted the challenges posed by insecurity, noting the involvement of some youth.

He urged those involved in causing mayhem to lay down their arms, embrace peace, and choose constructive engagement. He assured them that his administration is committed to creating a conducive atmosphere for all.

Governor Alia called for continued cooperation and support from the youth, saying, “Your priorities are my priorities, and as we continue to work together, I am confident that we will lead Benue State to even greater heights.”
