Gunmen have killed a young man, Ikechukwu Idenyi Ali, in Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The gunmen invaded Okwor Ngbo market, where the deceased owned a shop, and shot him several times as he was closing for the day.

This latest incident follows a string of attacks on security agencies and residents in the community this year, resulting in numerous deaths. Two months ago, gunmen targeted the hotel owned by the Local Government Chairman, Ikechukwu Odono, burning several cars and killing one person.

Confirming the recent killing, Chairman Odono stated, “Actually yesterday around 10.00 pm, unknown gunmen came to our village market, Okwor, on a motorbike and shot one Mr Ikechukwu Ali Idenyi while he was locking up his shop in the night hours of the day.”

Odono, accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Chinedu Onah, police, and other political stakeholders, visited the scene. He addressed protesting youths, ensuring the situation remained peaceful and preventing further loss of life or property damage.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that security operatives have been deployed to the community in response to the incident.
