A Yoruba Social Cultural Group, Egbe Omo Yoruba Parapo, has implored the relevant authorities to swiftly intervene to ensure the immediate release of Amb. Adejare Adegbenro.

Prof. Olatunji Babatunde, South West Coordinator of the group, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said Adegbenro had long been a pivotal figure in the growth and development of the Yoruba race, particularly in Ogun State, where his contributions had significantly impacted the community’s progress and prosperity.

He further said that his dedication to fostering unity, promoting cultural heritage, and championing socio-economic advancements had earned him respect and admiration both locally and internationally.

According to him, his unwavering commitment to service and his unblemished record of integrity and dedication to our collective
well-being underscores the urgency of this appeal.

“The unjust detention of Ambassador Adegbenro not only violates his fundamental rights but also
disrupts the noble work he continues to do for our people.”

He said that as a committed advocate for peace, justice, and mutual understanding among diverse groups, his absence is keenly felt and impedes ongoing efforts towards communal harmony and progress.

“We urge all stakeholders, including governmental bodies, civil society organizations, and the media, to join us in demanding justice and fairness for Adegbenro.

He called for the need to uphold the principles of rule of law, human rights, and dignity for all individuals, irrespective of
their status or affiliations.

Adegbenro was said to have been detained following a petition by some staff of the National Commission for the Co-ordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms, Ammunition, and Light Weapons (NATCOM).

Adegbenro was the acting director general of the agency before he was arrested for alleged illegal recruitment and gun running.
