PalmPay has collaborated with the Lagos State government to support its Ounje Eko agricultural initiative. The programme is aimed at providing residents with affordable food options by offering discounted groceries at designated markets across five divisions of the state.
Ounje Eko, which translates to “Lagos Food,” is a critical intervention programme launched by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address the challenges of high inflation, currently at 30 per cent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Residents can expect significant savings of 25 per cent on essential food items like rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes and pepper.
PalmPay will play a key role by providing seamless and secure digital payment solutions through PoS terminals at these discounted markets. This collaboration ensures a user-friendly experience for both vendors and consumers.
Head of Marketing Communications at PalmPay, Enakeno Umuteme, said: “The Ounje Eko initiative is truly commendable, especially considering the current economic climate. We are honoured to partner with the Lagos State government and contribute to this vital programme. By providing accessible payment solutions, we believe we can make a positive impact on our community.”
PalmPay’s involvement in Ounje Eko reinforces its commitment to empowering individuals and businesses through innovative financial tools. This partnership offers Lagos residents a much-needed solution to access affordable food options while supporting local businesses.
