No fewer than six Boko Haram members and their families have surrendered to the troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) around the Lake Chad region.

MNJTF spokesman, Abubakar Abdullahi, said the force’s special operation codenamed, Operation Lake Sanity 2, which covers Nigeria-Cameroon borders, has pushed out some Boko Haram members from their hideouts.

“Recently, six additional terrorists have surrendered, laying down their arms from April 17 to 27, 2024,” Abdullahi said in a statement, yesterday.

He said the surrendered terrorists ages between 19 and 38, turned in with their weapons to the troops of 403 Amphibious Brigade (Baga) of Sector 3 in Monguno,

One of them, 19-year-old Ali surrendered at Monguno on April 17 while Haoudou Sedik, 37, and Kadja Ousman, 21, turned in at Blangua, Cameroon, to troops of Sector 1 in the Darak area of southern Lake Chad on April 25, according to the MNJTF spokesman.

He said another one, Mohammed Abdulraman, age 38, surrendered with his wife and three children, including an infant, one 36 Hand Grenade, to Sector 3’s 403 Amphibious Brigade at the Kwatam Turare axis, Baga, Nigeria on April 26.

Abdullahi disclosed the other, 25-year-old Yusuf Unaru turned in to troops at Kekeno in Kukawa Local Government Area, northern part of Borno State on April 27.

He said the initial investigation by the MNJTF established the surrendering persons years of involvement in Boko Haram terror activities. He called on other terrorists still in the bush to lay down their arms.

As at May 2023, the military said 51,828 Boko Haram have so far surrendered.
