The Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibola, has raised concerns about the health of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, asserting that he is currently unfit to rule.
Speaking to reporters at his private residence in Ibadan, Oba Ajibola emphasized the need for caution and patience in the process of installing a new Olubadan.
The Olubadan stool became vacant following the passing of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who reigned for two years until his demise at the age of 81.
Oba Ajibola questioned the rush to install Oba Olakulehin, stating that he has not been seen or heard from by the traditional council. As the second in command, Oba Ajibola expressed his disappointment in the lack of communication from Oba Olakulehin and emphasized that his endorsement for the position has not been given.
Regarding a recent meeting held in Ibadan, where it was purported that Oba Olakulehin had been endorsed, Oba Ajibola distanced himself from such claims, stating his refusal to be part of any illegitimate actions. He stressed the importance of allowing Oba Olakulehin to recover fully before assuming the position of Olubadan.
Oba Ajibola’s remarks shed light on the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the succession to the Olubadan throne and underscore the need for transparency and adherence to due process in traditional matters.
Further details on this matter are expected to emerge in due course as the situation unfolds.
