Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) geared towards leveraging on the strength of both organizations to stop the sore issue of building collapse in the country.
Dr. Iliyasu B. Gashinbaki, President and Chairman, of Council, CIFCFIN, disclosed this at the Institute’s 6th Direct Training and Award of Fellowship recently in Abuja. Giving highlights of the MoU, Gashinbaki declared: “There would be comprehensive forensic review from the basis of design, to the Engineering Procurement and Construction, EPC to ensure integrity of the process. We want to make sure that all those processes are vetted properly, and then, malpractices that easily happen in those areas are curtailed or stopped in their entirety.”
He said the Institute would also work closely with COREN in the area of fighting product specification fraud running into billions of Naira originating from countries that manufacture fake products usually shipped to third world countries.
The CIFCFIN president also revealed that the Institute was in partnership with the Nigeria Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), “to help build the capacity of its membership and that of members of the National and States Houses of Assembly in order to help strengthen their oversight functions.”
He said the Institute was also ready to collaborate and partner with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to provide technical forensic analysis and vetting of the 24 lawyers jostling to be appointed as High Court Judges of the Federal Capital Territory.
Gashinbaki charged the new members and fellows of the Institute to consider the greater purpose of their profession and reaming shining lights for others to follow. “From today, you are now change agents and change makers who are duly enlisted in the anti-corruption army that will transform Nigeria into greatness. As certified professionals and fellows, you have been equipped with the knowledge, tools, skills, and ethical foundation necessary to make a positive impact on your communities and the nation at large.”
Forty-seven members were awarded Fellowships and 110 graduated as certified members of the Institute at its 6th direct Training and awards of Fellowships held at EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja.
