In partnership with with Consonance/TalentX, an investment company, FilmMakeHer has trained aspiring filmmakers, producers, screenwriters and other craftswomen and artificers in the entertainment industry on a one-week free intensive hands-on training held recently in Lagos. 

The training which was the maiden edition empowered 16 women and equipped with skills to succeed and make a name the film industry. Five lucky participants went home with 13 screenwriting software packages to enhance their capabilities in scriptwriting.

The programme also featured strong female voices in the Nigerian Film Industry, including Omotayo Inakoju (Head of Legal, EbonyLife Group),  Uyoyou Adia, an award-winning director,  TigerFireRose – a writer, filmmaker, storyteller and Victoria Popoola, Co-Founder/CEO of TalentX Africa.

Speaking on the purpose of the training, the Founder/Convener of FilmMakeHer, Anita Abada said she was keen on giving young women seamless entry into the industry, having triumphantly navigated the challenges inherent in breaking into the industry.

Abada who took the participants through the process of producing and selling their films revealed that the training which would be held annually is expected to expand to other African countries.

At the end, the first beneficiaries of the training shot a short film titled ‘Breaking Ground’ to help them get hands-on experience and build their portfolio.
