The United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) in collaboration with the Katsina State government is set to organise a North-West peace and security summit in Katsina.

Inaugurating a joint planning committee for hosting of the summit, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Garba Faskari, said that he would chair the 14-member committee with Head of the Civil Service of the State, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Commissioner of Information and Culture, Attorney-General of the state as well as a UNDP representative as some of the other members of the committee.

The theme of the summit is, “Security Livelihood, Building Resilience and Promoting Peace and Security: Addressing the Nexus of Banditry, Extremism and Climate Change in North-West Nigeria.”

The North-West geo-political zone has seven states of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto and Jigawa.

The area has virtually become a killing field due to activities of terrorists and with Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara states competing for the position of the worst hit state in the zone.
