The former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, has charged journalists to sustain the efforts to safeguard democracy.

Obi who made the charge in Awka, during the meeting of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists( NUJ), Anambra State Council commended them for their good work as watchdog of the society.

He hailed the media for their unrelenting efforts in carrying out their responsibility and to always uphold professional ethics for the benefit of society.

The former governor who was represented by his media aide, Mr. Val Obienyem, tasked the fourth estate of realm not to relent in playing their roles despite the challenges in discharging their duties.

He stated that members of the chapel, and other journalists in the state assisted his administration when he was the governor of the state, pledged continuous support for the media in the state.

The Chairman of the Anambra State Correspondents Chapel, Chief Chuks Ilozue, commended the former governor of the state for his commitment in the affairs of his members and journalists generally in the state.

Ilozue commended the cordial working relationship that existed between members of the chapel and the Obi government, stating that the chapel would continue to sustain it.
