Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has disclosed that no fewer than 1,600 infant births are recorded every month in less than two years of his administration in the state.

The governor disclosed this at the birthday ceremony of Sir Emeka Offor in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

He said the birth rate in Anambra has increased from 200 obtained under the immediate past administration to 1600 every month.

Soludo, who took over from his predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano, said: “The total birth rate per month was 200, but today, it has gone up to 1,600 with zero mortality.”

He said the upsurge was due to the investment the state government had made in the health sector.

He added that it is a testament to the free antenatal programme in the state, where 52 percent of the beneficiaries are non-indigenes.
