A foundation known as Anyichi Foundation has doled out N1 million for ten indigent but brilliant Senior Secondary School (SS3) students in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State for the payment of their school fees and registration of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The beneficiaries of the maiden edition of the scholarship were drawn from D. Mc. Glade Secondary School Ogrute and Community Secondary School, Nkpamute all in Igbo-Eze North LGA of Enugu State for the first batch to register for WAEC.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Oyiga, an Israeli-based businessman, who addressed the beneficiaries and their school managements while making the presentation of the one million naira cheque to the beneficiaries yesterday at the Community Secondary School Nkpamute-Ulo in Igbo-Eze North LGA, said that the gesture was in support of the programme of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State sponsoring indigent and brilliant students from the state, as well as his desire to help the poor and less privileged in society.
“Today, to the glory of God I present this one million naira cheque to these ten students for the payments of their SS3 school fees and registration of their WAEC.
“The beneficiaries are the first set of secondary school students who are under the scholarship scheme of Anyichi Foundation and our plan is that many more students will follow.
“What we are doing through the foundation is in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s programme, to support students of the state in their education, as well as the passion in me to help the poor and less privileged ones in society.
“It is not that I have much to give but, because I appreciate God’s continuous grace upon my life, and helping the needy has been my earnest prayer to God Almighty to provide me with the resources that I will use to actualize my dreams for the society,” he said.
Oyiga who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Oyiga urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money by committing it to their school fees and WAEC registration. He also appealed to the school management and the teachers to prepare them well for the upcoming WAEC exam to enable them to make good grades in all their subjects.
Responding, Mr. Gerald Atamah, Principal, Community Secondary School, Nkpamute, commended Hon. Oyiga for the N1 million donation to the students, saying that there is no investment and legacy that can surpass human capital development.
The Principal who prayed to God to reward Hon. Oyiga abundantly for the gestures and his care for the needy assured the foundation that they would do their very best to prepare the students well for the WAEC examination.
