The financial impropriety rocking the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, has taken a new dimension as Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered the immediate suspension of the Provost, Prof Jimoh Afolabi, over allegations of financial malfeasance, abuse of power, and corruption.

A statement by the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday, stated that the suspension was in line with the interim report of the Investigation panel headed by the Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye. The college had been enmeshed in a financial impropriety. The chairman of the governing council, Peter Babalola, was accused of mismanaging the college’s fund and this led to suspension of the provost by the council chairman.

But the committee set up to investigate the allegations reversed the suspension of the college provost and ordered the status quo ante pending the outcome of the investigation.

However, Governor Adeleke has approved the recommendation of the committee that the Chairman of the Governing Council, Babalola should remain in office, saying there is no proven case of abuse of power or financial wrongdoings against him.
