It was double honours for  The Sun Media Development Foundation at the weekend as it was recognised as the Community Champion of the Year at the CSR Social Impact and Sustainability Awards (SISA) 2023 while its Executive Director, Victor Emeruwa, emerged as the ‘Non-Profit Leader of the year.

   The awards were in recognition of Emeruwa’s outstanding commitment and the contribution of the Foundation in upholding high corporate social standards.

The event held in Lagos on Sunday brought together various individuals, companies and organisations to honour their contributions to societal development and to increase the advocacy for CSR initiatives by organisations and corporates.

Receiving the award, Emeruwa expressed gratitude for the recognition and assured that it would serve as a motivation to do more.

Represented by Chy Chy Ezenwa, senior officer at the Foundation, he added: “Our core value on climate change, health, education for the girl child and the male child. We are honoured and we will do more.”

Themed “Leveraging Effective CSR for Sustainable National Development,” The event marked the fourth edition of SISA organised by CSR Reporters to recognise, honor and celebrate the outstanding efforts of organisations and individuals that have made transformative impacts on Nigerian society.

This year’s edition also witnessed the unveiling of a research document tagged “CSR 50.”

According to the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of CSR Reporters, Eche Munonye, the document is a research article of 50 organisations and individuals that have contributed to building a better society for all.

“The document which is in four sections of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability; Corporate philanthropy; Nonprofit Impact and Individual Philanthropy looks at organisations and individuals that have embedded international Sustainability best practices in their approach to business and philanthropy.”

He added that the organisations contained in the document have approached their operations with recourse to the three pillars of Sustainable Business Practice: Social, Economic and Environmental.

Munonye underscored the importance of recognising organisation who have performed excellently in order to serve as a model and spur other companies, organizations and individual to thread similar path.

Other organisations recognised at the event included AIICO Insurance Plc; Sustainable Insurance Company of the Year, Nascon Allied Industrial; Best Health Safety Company of the Year, IHS Towers; Quality Service Delivery and Sustainable Partner of the Year among other companies and deserving individuals.
