Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, said she is after the welfare package of her officers and checkmate illegal immigrants and child trafficking in the country.

She said at the passing out parade of the 48th Superintendent Basic Course 2023, at the Immigration Training School, Kano: “The building, training and retraining of the service personnel in line with the global best practice is our priority. So also the capacity building, training and course to broaden their skill and knowledge.

“This is to ensure sense of direction for service and strike a balance between ethnics and professionalism in the use of power at the disposal of the personnel. CCTV camera and helicopter will be used for surveillance to checkmate illegal immigrants and hoodlums.”

Meanwhile, Adepoju received INTERPOL president, Major General Ahmed Nasser AI-Raisi and the vice president, AIG Garba Baba Umar. They deliberated on issues of mutual understanding and continuous cooperation as the bulk of the functions of the organisation relies solely on immigration.

She told her visitors: “The Immigration Service is now a global world where we showcased our professionalism and integrity to the international community.

“The Federal Government  unveiled additional enhanced e–passport facilities  at select  Nigeria’s embassies in Europe on November 6, 2023. One of such was inaugurated at the Nigerian Embassy, Rome, Italy, by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“We have announced the roll out of the enhanced e-passport in Europe. Phase one, which includes Spain, Greece, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, was officially introduced in Rome. Phase two is scheduled to be implemented by the end of the week.

“The e–passport complies with all standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). It positions Nigeria as the first country in Africa and the fifth worldwide to achieve this technological feat. This accomplishment has garnered high regard from the international community.”
