The Chief Executive Officer, Surprise Pub and Cafe, Matthew Evbakor Oshodin, yesterday, said that Nigeria has a lot of unsung heroes whose praises are usually sung when they have passed on to the great beyond.
He said that this should not be encouraged as a country which believes in the development of its people and encourage creativity among its teeming youths.
Oshodin said this while speaking on his forthcoming Palmer Omoruyi Legendary Concert event in the state.
He said on his own, he has chosen to right the wrongs in his time and sets a benchmark for others in the hospitality business to follow.
He said in doing that, he has decided to honour a gospel artiste, Deaconess Palmer Omoruyi, a woman who has broken the celling in her career as a gospel artiste.
He said, honouring her, is a way of letting her know that she is very much valued by the people of the state.
He said, the gospel artiste who has carved a niche for herself in the music industry, has also created jobs for other Nigerians by extension, as there are other persons working under her, which has further reduced the level of unemployment in the state.
Oshodin said the honour to be done to the Edo State born gospel artiste, is to spur other women to look inwards and find out what they are good at with the view of developing them for the well being of humanity.
“Last time, we honoured Mr. Wilson Ehigiator also known as Ekobeghian and the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu was present in person but this time around, we decided to go for a woman, Palmer Omoruyi.
“Our women are blessed with abundant of talents. The only problem confronting them is that, they have not been able to discover themselves.
“To those who have discovered themselves and are making waves in our society in their various fields of endeavours, they have not been singled out for honour for their ingenuity.
“To me, I believe that we are not been fare to them at all. I believe that they should be appreciated and the best time to do it, is when they are alive and not when they are dead.
” I have taken it upon myself as the Chief Executive Officer of Surprise Pub and Cafe, to honour one of our own while she is still alive.
“I have dedicated a day for her tagged” Palmer Omoruyi Legendary Concert”. This is just to honour her. She will come, sing some of her hits songs and the award will be given to her.
“I believe this will encourage other women to discover themselves and be useful to themselves and the society at large”, Oshodin said.
