Foremost rights group, Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), has decried the severe economic hardship the removal of fuel subsidy had continued to inflict on the masses, insisting the palliatives so far released by federal government had made insignificant impact in cushioning the effects.
Lamenting the sufferings the populace had been subjected in a Communique issued at the end of its Annual General Conference (AGC) 2023, held in Awka, Anambra state, last weekend, the body called for release of more palliative measures to ameliorate the burden on masses.
The body’s AGC witnessed the inauguration of the new national Executives of CDHR, where the current President, Comrade (Dr) Kehinde Prince Taiga, who was re-elected to serve a fresh tenure along Comrade James Chibuzo Chikwendu, National Vice President, Comrade Gerald Katchy, National Gen. Secretary and Comrade Jude Adimekwe, Asst. National General Secretary.
Others are; Comrade Michael Roy Olokungboye, National Treasurer, Comrade Ugah O. Godspower National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Infechiga Queen Chinazo, National Internal Auditor, Comrade Enohuwa Obamwonyi, Ex officio; and Barrister Emeka Anosike, Ex officio.
Parts of the recommendations made by CDHR in the Communique read; “That the Nigeria government should be accountable to the people by putting in place policies that can change the life of the common man for better”.
“That the government should not add to the suffering of the masses but should initiate policies that will reduce hardship bedeviling the Nigeria citizens and that government should should stop multiple taxation of the people in the face of extreme hardship the people are facing and fighting on daily basis”.
“That the government should engage in massive infrastructural development from the local government,state and the federal level and that education should be given top priority to enhance human capital development at all levels”.
