Sixty-one ex-players of Nassarawa United Football Club find themselves embroiled in a financial dispute with the government after match bonuses totaling N270 million were to be paid in two installments.
Sun reports that what was initially seen as a resolution quickly turned into a contentious issue when players discovered inconsistencies in their payouts.
Ahmed Abubakar, a former player, who spoke to Daily Sun on Thursday for the group of players raised their grievances and called for government intervention to rectify the alleged mishandling of funds.
According to Abubakar, the government had initially approved a payment of N100 million, but a significant number of players received payments that fell far short of the expected amounts. The players, who were owed varying amounts for match bonuses during their time at Nassarawa United, faced disheartening discrepancies in their payouts.
Some ex-players received their full entitlements, while others were paid in piecemeal fashion through Point of Sale (POS) transactions. This disparity has left many players dissatisfied and demanding resolution. He said.
“The scale of the discrepancies is alarming. For instance, players who were entitled to N100 million received only N100,000, and those owed two million or three million Naira ended up with a mere N400,000 and N300,000 respectively.”
He urged the governor do a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities.
