Gunmen, yesterday, reportedly beheaded a policeman attached to the Abia State unit of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) located in Aba.
Reports from the commercial city of Aba indicated that the RRS operatives were on a surveillance mission along the Umuode/Isiahia area of Osisioma Ngwa LGA, when they were attacked.
The report said: “The RRS personnel were on a surveillance mission in Umuode/Isiahia, off the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, when they were attacked by unknown gunmen.”
It was gathered that immediately the hoodlums gunned down the policeman, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, his colleagues fled to different directions for their dare lives.
The fleeing cops were said to have left the body of their colleague and their operational van at the mercy of the gunmen who beheaded their colleague. It was not clear if the gunmen made away with the beheaded body of the policeman and the police vehicle.
“As one of the policemen was killed, the rest of the squad ran away, leaving the body of their colleague, which the gunmen later beheaded,” the report quoted a source.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, could not be reached for comments when efforts were made.
