From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The Coalition of Imo Young Professionals (CIYP) has called on President Bola Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as well as security agencies, to ensure that the November 4 Imo State gubernatorial election is free and fair.
The National Coordinator or the coalition, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, while speaking at a press briefing, on Tuesday, in Abuja, expressed concern that the political atmosphere is getting heated, ahead of the poll.
Emmanuel stated that survey by his group indicated that the people of Imo are yearning for change in the administration of the state. According to him, research by the coalition also indicated that the electorates are more favourably disposed to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Samuel Anyanwu.
Consequently, he stressed for a level playing field in the November 4 contest, so that the wish of the people can prefer in governorship poll.
“We wish, first and foremost, to call on H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the father of modern progressive politics in Nigeria, to please use his good
offices as the President of the Federal Republic, to enforce free and fair
elections in Imo State come November 2023.
“In the same vein, we wish to call on the IGP, the DG-DSS, and all National Security Chiefs that will deploy their personnel for electoral day duties during Imo 2023, to patriotically bear true allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic by esteeming democratic integrity as a non-negotiable value far above all other possible considerations on Imo 2023.
“CIYP hereby calls on the good people of Imo State to begin to make plans on how to legitimately use the power of the people to
ensure freedom and fairness during Imo 2023 gubernatorial election,” Emmanuel stated.
