•Commends Igbinedion on contribution to nation building

The Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has tasked it’s members to practices within the provisions of the Institute with regards to cost management and best practices.

President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Mr. Michael Olayemi Shonubi who gave the task to the members of the built environment on cost management best practices saying that is the way to retain the dignity of the profession.

Shonubi made the call during the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors two-Day National Workshop  with theme, Managing Construction  Projects in Turbulent  Times.” held in Benin City,  Edo state.

He harped on the need for sustainable infrastructure finance and investment,  policy, regulatory frameworks and standards  for cost management of infrastructure.

Shobubi who commended  Edo state Governor,  Mr. Godwin Obaseki for the feat recorded in the construction industry in the state cited the construction of local Refinery and other projects  that have  positive  impacts on the citizenry.

He stressed the importance of the Workshop  giving the challenges facing the construction industry and encouraged professionals in the industry to collaborate and engage in innovation for global best practices.

Declaring the workshop open, Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki,  represented  by Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development,  Isoken Omo, expressed the government support and commitment to drive infrastructural development in Edo.

Obaseki charged Quantity Surveyors, and other stakeholders in the construction industry on quality and high standards with a view to ensuring clients have value for their money.

Meanwhile, president of the Nigerian Institute Of Quantity Surveyors, QS Michael Olayemi Shonubi has described the hospitality of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion as  equal to none in Africa.

Shonubi made the remark when he led other members of the Institute on a courtesy visit to the ESAMA of Benin and Honorary Romanian consul to Edo and Delta states of Nigeria, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion. The visit was to felicitate with the patriarch, ahead of his 89 birthday celebration. Members of the Nigerian Institute Of Quantity Surveyors, arrived at the House of Igbinedion and was received by the patriarch of the house and Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

In an address the President of the Institute, QS Michael Olayemi Shonubi said at 89 Esama of Benin has continued to provide meaningful support and played fatherly role to numerous institutions, groups and individuals. He noted that at 89 the Esama is still strong and full of wisdom to contribute to the development of his fatherland.

The Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion who was full of joy expressed gratitude to the Quantity Surveyors for the visit and enjoined them to keep on upholding the ethics of their profession, while contributing to nation building.

Some members of the Quantity Surveyors, eulogized the sterling fatherly disposition of the Esama of Benin whom they said distinguished him from other Nigerians. The Nigerian Institute Of Quantity Surveyors were in Benin City for their 2023 national workshop.
