Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Force Criminal Of Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, Mr Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, has charged officers to apply professionalism when carrying out investigation and to imbibe community policing.
He said: “My mission and my vision will be to sanitise the department, train and re-train officers on how to conduct investigation properly. I have reminded them of their commitment to professionalism, zero tolerance for corruption and abuse of human rights. Officers should always operate within the ambit of relevance.
“In the early 80s until till date, FCID, Abuja, has been the best in term of investigation. FCID is the mother of all investigations in Nigeria. All the police commands in the federation always transfer their cases to.
“We conduct investigation excellently. In FCID, we have handled a lot of profile cases in the country. We always have good results at the end of the day.
“The Acting in Inspector General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun has warned officers to be disciplined, professional and respect the fundamental rights of members of the public. Officers should conduct themselves with decorum and alertness. Also, they have to configure the security architecture in their areas of responsibility to ensure adequate security.”
Alabi advised officers to take community policing with all seriousness: “To have good relationship with the members of the public and build confidence, they should be friendly.
“They should tell members of the public that police is their friend. Also I will want my officers to be ready to serve the public.
That is their primary assignment. They should humble themselves and behave well as officers with discipline.”
