The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the World Bank, has successfully trained 300 students from the Federal Science and Technical College in Nasarawa State’s Doma Local Government Area.
Daily Sun gathered that this initiative falls under the World Bank’s Innovation Development and Effectiveness in Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project, with the primary aim of combating youth unemployment in Nigeria.
At the Technical Vocational Education and Training exhibition day held in Doma, on Thursday, Manzwet Amos, the State Project Manager of IDEAS, explained that the project’s core objective is to enhance Nigeria’s skills development system, enabling it to produce pertinent skills for both formal and informal sectors.
“These 300 students have been diligently honing their skills in Catering and Decoration, Welding and Fabrication, Building Engineering, and Electrical Engineering since 2020. The project’s overarching goal is to equip these students with improved and new skills, making them more employable.”
The exhibition, themed “The Role Of TVET In The Society,” aimed to inspire critical and creative thinking in the engineering design process among students. It showcased the practical skills essential for various trades, ensuring students are well-prepared for future employment opportunities.”
Principal Grace Golen of the Federal Science and Technical College, Doma, expressed gratitude to the World Bank for their pivotal role in this project. She emphasized the importance of vocational skills alongside conventional education for a nation’s global competitiveness.

The collaborative efforts of the Federal Ministry of Education and the World Bank continue to make strides in training students in diverse skill acquisition programs, thus contributing to the country’s economic growth in the years ahead.
