The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has lambasted state governors over what he called their unconstitutional misconduct in dissolving the local government councils.
Prince Adebayo decried a situation where the new governors are whimsically dissolving the local government councils they met on ground, describing their action as grossly illegal and undemocratic.
This followed the suspension of the 17 local government council administration in Plateau State by Gov Caleb Mutfwang.
He made his position known through his verified twitter account @Pres_Adebayo on Thursday. “It is the same electorates that vote in the national, state and local government elections. All are sacred. The Plateau State Governor, and other despots should promptly restore the dissolved local government councils in compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgement in Yantaba vs Governor of Katsina State (2022) 1 NWLR PT. 1811 AT 259, and other Supreme Court’s judgements enforcing section 7(1) of the Constitution,” he said.
