The Civil Society Central Coordinating Council has tackled Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle over his comment on the purported plan by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to embark on study leave.

The CSO, in a statement by its national coordinator, Obe Agu, expressed dismay that Governor Matawalle relied on fake news, which has been debunked by Presidency to allegedly attack Emefiele.

The group, while mocking the Zamfara governor for losing his re-election, said he was allegedly using the attack on Emefiele to curry favour from the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

It called on the President-elect to keep the outgoing Zamfara governor and Bayo Onanuga, far away from his government, as a result of his alleged divisive comments.

The group said “We call on the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to beware of Mr. Matawalle, a man who is currently facing the democratic verdict of the people of Zamfara and keep him away from his government. If the Governor really had anything good to contribute to good governance, the people of Zamfara would have renewed his mandate.

“It may not sit well with the sensibilities of Zamfara people that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would appoint Mr. Matawalle into his cabinet to represent the same Zamfara people who have roundly rejected him.”

The CSO eulogized Emefiele for his policies as head of the apex bank, noting that the economy of the country would have been worse off but his dexterity.

It stated that “Those with accurate information will attest that if not for the dexterity, expertise, finesse, dedication and commitment to service of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the economy of Nigeria would have been a lot worse than it is today.”
