The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, and his 20-year-old son, Ishaku Usman, for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of prohibited firearms.
The duo who held from Dorowan Maitimbi village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State were arrested by Plateau State Police operatives with illegal firearms.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Alfred Alabo who paraded the suspects along with five others for culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism said the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.
He said, “The 60-year-old Usman Abubakar and his son, Ishaku Usman were arrested for possession of prohibited firearms, armed robbery and kidnapping. Usman gives out firearms to his son who also rents them out to kidnappers.”
The PPRO said one Friday Samson was arrested for the rape and murder of Miss Ruth Bako of Angwan Jarawa in Farin-Gada in Jos North Local Government Area on December 10, 2022.
He noted that Friday raped the lady to death and pick her phone which was tracked by the police and found with one Ephraim Emmanuel, who claimed bought the phone from Friday Samson.
Alabo said Police Operatives of the Laranto Division of the Command led by CSP Pam Dauda Ishaya arrested Ephraim with the victim’s phone.
He noted that when he was interrogated, Ephraim revealed that it was one Friday Samson, that sold the phone to him. Further investigation led to the arrest of Friday Samson who confessed that he raped and killed Miss Ruth Bako.
Alabo explained further that a 22-year-old Seth Reuben Turbi of the Gada-Biu community in Jos North was arrested for robbing one Michael Ortyom in Gada-Biu.
He said police Operatives, on receiving the information arrested the suspect and recovered the weapon from his possession. He noted that the suspect who is also a cultist confessed to the crime and is currently in detention.
He noted that all the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.
Alabo said the Police Commissioner, Bartholomew Onyeka assured Plateau citizens that no crime will go unpunished in the state.
“The Command want to assure the public that as we continue t deal a devastating blow on criminal elements in the state, we will not relent in our efforts to get rid of repulsive and criminal-minded officers among us whose conducts are inimical to the image of the force.”
He explained that all the five police officers of the C Division who were allegedly involved in the recent killing of 17-year-old innocent Ibuchim Ofezie at the Jos Terminus Main Market, have been arrested and are being investigated thoroughly by the Criminal Investigation Department.
