8 Division Garrison has emerged as the champion of the Nigerian Army’s 2025 Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition, held at the Obstacle Ground in Sokoto.
The competition saw the 58 Signal Brigade as second, while the 48 Engineering Brigade took third.
The five-day event, which concluded on Friday, saw intense drills and spirited competition among participating brigades.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose , commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and professionalism.
The GOC who was represented by Brigadier General Moses Udom Ikobah, praised the energy and commitment displayed by the various formations throughout the event.
“This remarkable event is the product of hard work, discipline, and resourcefulness. We have witnessed passion, resilience, skill, and professionalism, all of which reflect the combat readiness of our troops.”
He highlighted the importance of the competition as both a test of strength and a platform to enhance operational capabilities, encouraging all participants to take lessons from the event and prepare for future challenges.
According to him, there is a need to continuously train and build the capacity needed in addressing evolving security threats in the army area of responsibility, he said the competition significantly contributes to strengthening the troops’ combat effectiveness.
The GOC expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O. Oluyede, for his steadfast support and the resources provided to ensure the success of the event. Gratitude was also extended to the Chief Judge and the organizing team, particularly the 8 Division Garrison, for their excellent coordination.
The ceremony concluded with the official declaration of the competition’s end and best wishes for safe travels to all participants returning to their formations.
