Four people lost their lives, on Tuesday evening, in an auto crash that occurred along the Ugwuoyeama axis of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Enugu State Command, Mr. Adeyemi Sokunbi, who confirmed the incident, attributed it to brake failure.

It was learnt that the accident happened between 6:45pm and 7pm, on Tuesday, and involved a kerosine-ladden truck and six other vehicles.

While two people died instantly, two others died later at the hospital. Ten others who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu for treatment.

Sokunbi noted that the dead victims were taken to Park Lane Hospital, Enugu; while some items belonging to the victims were also recovered at the scene of the accident. The sector commander said on a follow-up on the victims hospitalised, two people among the 10  rescued and rushed to the hospital were declared dead by doctors on duty in the hospital.

He said the kerosene ladden truck lost its brakes and rammed into six other vehicles, which included cars and a bus on the newly constructed section of the Enugu-Onitsha Federal Highway.
