The Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation has given scholarship awards to 24 students. Twelve of the beneficiaries are children of police officers of inspector cadre and other ranks who died in the course of duty.
The remaining 12 are indigenes of the seven local governments of Edo Senatorial District. The foundation is the brainchild of Dr Solomon Arase, chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC).
The awards were a part of the foundation’s annual lecture series in Abuja and Benin to mark his birthday. Arase said: “The foundation is for outstanding students whose personal circumstances might otherwise deny them the chance of furthering their education.
“The scholarship grant is carefully considered with components that will provide the mental structures to nurture, encourage and assist the awardees complete their graduate/post graduate degree, develop life skills cultivate career ambition and embark on a lifetime journey of self discovery and excellence.
“The foundation is expected to afford many children of deceased police officers of the inspector cadre and below and indigenes of the zone who are desirous and determined of conquering the vagaries of life through educational pursuit and attainments to be reached and positively touched”
Meanwhile, Arase approved appointments and deployment of eight commissioners of police to state commands. PSC commended the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for adhering to the policy on gender sensitivity in his recommendation. The commission noted: “It is expected the IGP in subsequent proposals will include more officers of the North East and South East geopolitical zones that are yet to record the benchmark of 15 per cent as decided at its plenary meeting.”
