• Urges Nigerians to prioritize national interest over political ambition
• Highlights the need for unity, vision, and accountable leadership
The Oduwa People’s Assembly (OPA) has expressed concern over the recently announced coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioning Nigerians to carefully evaluate emerging political alliances as the 2027 general elections approach.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rechard Oltunji Kayode, the OPA emphasized the need for principled leadership, national cohesion, and a clear policy direction that prioritizes the welfare of the Nigerian people.
OPA described the ADC-led coalition—reportedly including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other notable figures—as politically ambitious but lacking the organizational unity and ideological focus required to inspire public confidence.
“The Oduwa People’s Assembly urges Nigerians to reflect deeply on the nature of this alliance. What we see is a group of prominent individuals coming together without a shared vision or cohesive agenda for national development,” Kayode said.
He noted that for any opposition movement to offer a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), it must be built on a foundation of transparency, public trust, and collective interest rather than personal ambition.
“Nigeria needs more than political realignments—we need clear, people-focused leadership that demonstrates loyalty to national ideals and long-term progress,” he added.
While stopping short of condemning any individual, OPA questioned the coherence of the coalition’s leadership structure and the strategic intent behind its formation, suggesting that some members may be more driven by political calculations than a genuine commitment to reform.
The group also raised concerns about the effectiveness of the alliance to mount a viable challenge to the incumbent party, noting that internal differences and past political rivalries could undermine the unity required to mobilize broad-based support.
OPA urged Nigerians to look beyond personality politics and focus on the competence, values, and track records of those seeking to lead the country.
“Our democracy must evolve beyond the politics of convenience. We must hold leaders to account, not just for their words, but for their history, their actions, and their ability to build consensus around national priorities,” the statement read.
In closing, the Oduwa People’s Assembly called for an era of political renewal guided by integrity, inclusiveness, and a shared commitment to building a more just and prosperous Nigeria.
“This is a time for the electorate to ask tough questions—not just of new coalitions, but of all political actors. We must insist on unity of purpose, clear policy direction, and a genuine willingness to serve the people.”
