From Okwe Obi, Abuja

The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM) has commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for rejecting a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, said the party would not collapse its structure in the name of a coalition to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC).

AJAM Coordinator, Barnabas Musa, in a statement yesterday, said the likes of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, must not be allowed to destabilise the political party.

Musa pointed out that those who called for a coalition were not genuine to uplift the country or address the pressing issues facing the nation, but rather in a quest for power and influence at any cost.

He said: “The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM) wishes to express its unequivocal support for the recent decision made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, under the astute leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, to distance itself from opportunistic office seekers, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, among others.

“This decision is not only commendable but also a bold step towards safeguarding the political integrity and stability of our great nation as we approach the 2027 presidential elections.

“In an era, where political opportunism is rampant, the PDP Governors’ Forum has demonstrated remarkable foresight and commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian people. By refusing to join forces with a coalition that is steeped in self-interest and devoid of a genuine vision for the country, the Forum has reaffirmed its dedication to the principles of good governance and accountability.

“The members of the opposition alliance, characterised by their transient political ambitions, have consistently shown themselves to be more concerned with personal gain than with the needs and aspirations of the common man.

“The Arewa Joint Action Movement firmly believes that the political landscape should be navigated with integrity and purpose.

“Unfortunately, the individuals in this opposition coalition have proven to be nothing more than political opportunists and job seekers, feeding off the goodwill of the populace, while offering little more than empty promises and deceptive rhetoric.

“Their dubious political agendas are not rooted in the genuine desire to uplift our communities or address the pressing issues facing our nation, but rather in a quest for power and influence at any cost.

“As we look ahead to the 2027 presidential elections, it is imperative that we remain vigilant against those who seek to destabilise our country for their own gain. The electorate has grown increasingly discerning, and we are confident that they will reject any attempts by these opportunists to manipulate their hopes and aspirations.

“The Nigerian people deserve leaders who prioritise their welfare and work tirelessly to create a brighter future for all citizens, rather than those who exploit their struggles for political leverage.

“We commend Governor Mohammed and the PDP Governors’ Forum for their principled stance and urge them to continue advocating for policies that enhance the lives of our people.

“The Arewa Joint Action Movement stands ready to support initiatives that promote unity, progress and genuine democratic values. Together, we can build a Nigeria that reflects the hopes and dreams of its citizens, free from the shackles of political opportunism.

“We call on all Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to a better future and to reject the politics of deception and self-interest. Let us unite in our quest for a nation that is just, equitable and prosperous for all.”
