Last Saturday, Nigeria female cricket team defeated host Rwanda in the 2nd game to maintain top position on the table among five African nations playing memorial cricket tournament to mark worst genocide in the continent.

Rwanda, Nigeria’s archrival, won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite Giselle Ishimwe outstanding opening batting 30 runs off 39 balls, the host team was restricted to 87/7- eighty seven runs and loss of seven wickets.

The second innings saw a more disciplined Nigeria girls surpass the target with 88/4 in 18.2 overs. Nigeria won by 6 wickets thanks to Salome Sunday’s 47 runs off 57 balls. Lucky Piety also made an impact with 26 runs from 31 balls.

The victory was Nigeria’s girls first back to back win against the stronger cricket opponent, Rwanda. Nigeria’s last win against Rwanda was in the NCF Women’s T20 finals in Lagos.

Nigerian girls secured maximum 4 points from two games to become table leaders and are followed by host Rwanda. Uganda sits third on the log while Botswana is fourth. The surprise at the table bottom is Kenya who lost their first match to Rwanda.
