National chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Chief Dan Nwanyanwu has said the extension of deadline for conduct of primaries by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) is an initiative of political parties under the aegies of Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC).
Nwanyanwu, who stated this, on Monday, while briefing journalists, in Abuja, said it is not true that the extension was done to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The extension of deadline for political parties primaries by INEC from June 3 to June 9, had been criticized by in some quarters as alleged move to favour the APC.
However, the ZLP chairman explained that he spear-headed the move for the adjustment of the timetable, after he observed that there was a window between June 4 and June 10 that could be used by parties to tidy their documents for the election.
Nwanyanwu noted that the adjustment of the timetable has afforded parties ample time to adjust their programmes ahead of the new deadline.
He added that the even Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), which concluded its presidential primary last weekend was also part of the decision.
“We do not speak for INEC but the attack on INEC that it manipulated the process is not true because we are involved,” he said.
