Bandits killed 15 farmers and injured three others in Waje village, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on May 17. Murtala M. Gotomo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, representing Governor Dr Nasir Idris, visited the victims’ families on Saturday, announcing a ₦24 million donation.

“The Kebbi State Government has expressed sympathy with the people of Waje,” Gotomo stated. Tafida described the donation as a modest effort to support the bereaved and injured.

Tafida assured that the state would tackle insecurity to ensure farmers’ safety. The District Head of Waje, Hon. Bala Danbaba, commended the visit and financial aid, noting Danko-Wasagu’s vulnerability due to its borders with Niger, Zamfara, and Sokoto states. He urged enhanced security to block bandit entry points.

Danko-Wasagu Chairman Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu Bena confirmed the casualties. Accompanying Tafida were Speaker Hon. Kabir Tukura, State APC Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, Senator Bala Na-Allah, commissioners, and special advisers.
